Jewelry Photoshoot with J.Star

So in my adventures to Idaho I also had the opportunity to take photos of a bunch of my sister-in-law’s jewelry.  She is MEGA talented silversmith and I’m so glad she gave me the chance to grow my photography skills and take some shots of her work in a light box. The belt down below was my father-in-law’s. That was one of my favorite things to take a picture of because it has so much character. I must say, some of the more reflective metals were seriously difficult to get the right lighting and make it look good. But I am happy with how they all turned out.

I have ben meaning to post these, and I was going to yesterday but I decided to wait one more day because todaaaaaay is her BIRTHDAY!  Happy Birthday J! She is a wonderful person who is very intuitive when it comes to reading people and understanding people emotionally. It’s really a gift. I have loved getting to know her as I have grown closer to Ryan’s siblings.

Some of these pieces are ones that she has been commissioned to make. If you, too, would like a custom piece of jewelry, contact me and I can’t get her in touch with you! One more little story, I learned quickly at my first Yardley Christmas that everyone LOVED Jenny gifts. I didn’t know why until I opened a beautifully wrapped box to find 2 pairs of beautifully crafted earrings. She is the envy of Christmas, and possibly even Santa Claus.:)

Yardley Photoshoot

So while we were in Twin Falls we decided to take family portraits since we hadn’t all been together in the same place for a while. While we didn’t hire anyone, instead I was able to bust out last year’s Christmas present from Ryan, my handy-dandy, wait for it… remote. Yes. It worked pretty well. At least we got some shots worthy of wall hanging:)We has so much fun there. Of course I updated most of that HERE, but still, nothing changed and I have only grown closer to this family!

We went to Shoshone falls the day after Christmas and it ended up being really beautiful.

Looking Back…

Rylie and Santa- I'll let you guess how that went!

Wow. the last few weeks have just flown by. Do you ever look back and think, “Did that really just happen?!” Cause that’s how I’m feeling. The week before Christmas I was busy making gifts for family. Ryan is in school and we were on the low end of funds this past Christmas, so we put a budget on gifts for each other. We could spend $25 and that was it!! I also decided not to buy anything for people this year and replaced shopping with LOTS of sewing and motivating myself. I think the gift I loved making most was a lavender rice bag. I used old fabrics scraps from Ryan’s dad’s shirts. I just thought it would be fitting because when he was alive he was seriously the source of comfort to this family. I got to talk to each of Ryan’s sisters and they all miss that about him. I thought the lavender heat bags would be reminiscent and parallel Claire’s amazing ability to comfort in this life. And lemme tell ya, even when I put them in plastic bags and wrapped them under the tree, there was serious wafting of lavender going on- everyone was curious:)

Ryan and I also talked about how this year giving our sentimental, hand-made things was more gratifying than any money we could have spent on ourselves and others. And I wanna kick myself because I didn’t get any pictures of them before I gave them away:(

Well the day after Christmas we helped my mother-in-law pack up her things. She is downsizing and has a LOT of things to go through since she has been in that house for a while. We spent the entire week with my brother-in-law and sister-in-law going through and moving stuff to her new place. It was SOO tiring, but we made a lot of fun memories. We were grateful for the very mild winter weather in Twin Falls.

We are having a family meeting tonight and I will report back on goals for this year:)I haven’t had a moment yet to do that. But I’m excited for the fresh start a new year brings- aren’t you?!

ps- RYLIE is one is less than a month. Can you believe it?! Where has the time gone?!!!

Family Portraits: The Millets

Saturday I got to spend some time with this cute family. I had to bribe Denton to be good and smile for me. Boy, he was such a good sport. It was 34 degrees at 1:30 in the afternoon…brrr it makes me shiver just thinking about it. We would bundle up and scurry off to our next little vignette.  The first thing I said  to Denton was, “After this shot we can wrap up in our coats again.” I felt sooo bad because he thought I wanted to give him a real shot. He got the most scared look on his face. I had to assure him there would be no needles involved. Aww- poor guy! Anyway, I had a great, FROZEN time:)Oh and how can I forget little Juliette?? How can you resist those plump lips??! Love her.

Baby Girl Portraits!

While I was home in Arizona for Thanksgiving I got to visit my dear friend after her little turkey almost arrived at the Thanksgiving table. Remember Melanie? She made me (well Rylie) a quilt and I featured her blog a little while ago. She is super creative and has the most positive attitude.

She looked sooo good and was handling everything way better than I did after having Rylie home for just a day. This little girl is so cute and her sisters were so proud. I just took a couple of shots of the bunkin. She wouldn’t go to sleep and was wide eyed. There is also something about a baby screaming in a picture… it’s nostalgic, yet calming since you dont’t have to hear it:)
